February is National Heart Health Month.

Today, Friday, February 2, 2007 is National Wear Red Day.

National Wear Red Day AKA Go Red for Women Day… is dedicated to bringing awareness to Heart Disease as being the Number One (#1) Killer of Women.

PERSONAL NOTE: This disease hits home for me, my own mother died 30 years ago from Heart Disease.  Things were a lot different in those days — people were very different.  Knowing and understanding my mother much better now… It is my assumption that my mother felt having a chronic illness put a chip in her vanity.  So she did not take proper care of herself and her heart.  She died suddenly in her sleep… at the young age of 66!

I myself have hypertension – high blood pressure.  I do my best to keep it controlled with prescribed medication and scheduled visits to the doctor.  However, the last couple of times I visited the doctor my pressure was higher than it has been in a very long time.  I am seeing a new doctor and he does not seem to be concerned.  He took it a few times when I was there and while I was resting it went down.  He thinks I am one of those people who get nervous when they visit the doctor!  High Blood Pressure, just sneaks up on you and you don’t always know you have it or that it is elevated if you do.  There are many factors that account for an elevation in blood pressure – food, rest, stress, etc.

WE MUST ALL BE diligent and keep an eye on our own health!  ONLY WE know what is normal for our health and our bodies.

Say It With eCards is bringing awareness to heart disease in women through its Wear Red eCard Campaign (aka Go Red for Women eCards). 

While the eCards on the Say It With eCards website are generally Judaic in nature, the Wear Red eCards (Go Red for Women eCards) collection was designed in two flavors — Judaic and non-Judaic (Generic, can be sent to anyone).

The Say It With eCards Red Dress design portrays a red dress, with a BIG Heart as the top portion.  EVERY WOMAN has a heart and EVERY WOMAN is vulnerable and should be made aware.  My own mother died from heart disease at the age of 66.  Her heart disease was virtually untreated after a heart attack ten years prior where she was hospitalized.  After she was released from the hospital she saw the doctor for a short period of time, but never believed that she had a heart attack… SHE DID!!!  I think she felt that having a chronic illness would put a stain on her vanity. (and boy… was she vain!)

Many things have changed since my mother passed away in July of 1976.  Things are more openly discussed and I believe it is a better time to be living — as far as knowledge is concerned.  Things that were not openly discussed back in 1976 are everyday conversation in today’s world – (dysfunctional families and verbal abuse being one of them).
